Week Ending June 1, 2007 - Washington, DC

GOP donors stop giving due to amnesty bill / New stem cell vote in House next week? / Arizona Republicans rip into Senator Kyl / Darfur - Now that Christians aren't being killed the Hollywood types want action in the Sudan / The Pledge: One Nation Under God moves forward

THE PRESIDENT
REPUBLICAN DONORS ANGRY - Republican National Committee officials are trying to explain their unusual step of firing every one of their telephone solicitors. The solicitors say they were fired because so many individual donors they contacted refused to help because of their anger over President Bush's amnesty based immigration bill. Estimates are that contributions from individuals to the Republican Party are down a stunning 40%. RNC spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt quickly pointed out that overall donations have not gone down, and said they just wanted to get rid of an outdated phone bank system. (They can't afford a better phone system, if donations are so great?) The Republican Party may be getting fat donations from big businesses that want cheap labor, but what wins elections is votes. And the small donors (translation voters) are not very happy at all. Click here for more information.

THE HOUSE
HOUSE IN RECESS - The House of Representatives is in recess for Memorial Day week. Business will begin as usual on Monday, June 4, 2007

STEM CELL VOTE NEXT WEEK - It looks like the House may vote on an embryonic stem cell research bill passed by the Senate earlier this year. The bill contains the same language which permits embryo destruction, as did the previously passed H.R. 3, as well as an additional provision regarding alternative sources for pluripotent stem cells. If the bill passes the House as anticipated, it will be sent to the President, who is expected to veto it because it approves of the destruction of viable human life with tax dollars.

THE SENATE
SENATE IN RECESS ... BUT -
Senator John Kyl (R-AZ) apparently had no idea of the level of hostility he would face at home as a result of being the co-author of the Amnesty bill with Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) . At a press conference late last week Kyl said, "Yes, I have learned some new words from some of my constituents." The headquarters of the Republican Party of Arizona reported that the calls about Kyl and the Amnesty bill have been 100% negative.

PLEASE FORWARD - Please forward this e- mail to your friends! More people than you think do not understand the danger to our society as a result of the actions of the Senate in granting amnesty to millions of lawbreakers.

RELIGION AND CULTURE
The Pledge: One Nation Under God THE PLEDGE - My new book, The Pledge: One Nation Under God has been released and is now available online and at bookstores. The book has a forward by Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) who is the primary sponsor of the Pledge Protection Act to keep "under God" in the Pledge. Please order The Pledge from the RFC bookstore, as the funds will be used to help fight to keep "under God" in the Pledge. Click here or on Image to order.

INTERNATIONAL
DARFUR - This week President George W. Bush announced both a tightening and an expansion of economic sanctions against the Sudan because of the continuing bloodshed in Darfur, as one group of Muslims of mostly an Arabian background kill other Muslims with mostly an African background. One of the measures taken is to punish companies that do business in the United States and also do business with the Sudan. This is a measure that the Bush and Clinton Administrations both refused to take while millions of Christians were killed in the Southern Sudan over a period of almost two decades. Now that Hollywood stars are concerned about the Sudan situation, the media finally cares as well
