LEGISLATIVE UPDATE - WEEK ENDING May 28, 2004

CONGRESS ADJOURNED UNTIL JUNE 1ST

INTERNATIONAL

VBS IN BETHLEHEM

For the past several years the Religious Freedom Coalition has participated in a Vacation Bible School (VBS) in the Bethlehem - Beit Jala area of what the media refers to as the West Bank, and we Christians see as part of the Holy Land. This is in addition to the support the RFC has given Christian schools and kindergartens in the West Bank even as more and more Christians flee the persecution from the Islamic gangs that now roam the streets of Bethlehem. This summer the VBS will be open to children living in the Bethlehem area who do not have the funds to pay even a small portion of the amount to send their children to Christian schools. A free lunch is served to the children attending and all materials and books are supplied by our team. The VBS team this year will send seven Americans headed by Gary Gordon who is a Bible teacher at a large Christian school in Colorado. All seven Americans are paying their own transportation to the Holy Land to participate in the VBS with local Arabic speaking teachers.

We have fallen short of our fund raising for this year's VBS and have a real need for funds for expenses including renting the vans required to carry teachers, students and materials to the locations we are using. We also hope to make some improvements to the school properties bringing the total required to about $6,000. Because of the VBS schedule that amount must be raised in the next two weeks. Only 2,000 subscribers to this Update sending just $3.00 each will provide the $6,000 needed to complete the financing of the VBS project this year. $3.00 is about the cost of a burger and fries at McDonalds ... I am asking you to give up one hamburger to help finish financing our VBS project in the Holy Land this summer. Will you help? Click here to contribute online or mail your check to RFC VBS PROJECT, PO Box 77511, Washington, DC 20013.

PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS

The Congress is adjourned and the President is campaigning for reelection. Next week we will return to our normal format. This update is being sent on Thursday rather than Friday because I will be out of the office and at a Marine Corps graduation ceremony for my son-in-law Friday morning.
