President George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20500

June 18, 2003

Dear Mr. President,

As you know, both Houses of Congress recently passed the partial birth abortion ban, and it will come to your desk for a signature in the near future. We would like to respectfully request that you hold a South Lawn signing ceremony to celebrate this historic occasion. This is the first time in Roe v. Wade’s thirty-year history that any abortion procedure has been restricted. It is important that the American public know of your strong support for innocent human life and that we continue to focus media attention to the horrific procedure. The fight for a ban of partial birth abortion began a national conversation that we are determined to continue.

On behalf of the pro-life community, we also want to express our heartfelt gratitude for continuing to be a leader on this issue and for your commitment to the unborn and their mothers. It is refreshing and encouraging to know that our President desires to see this nation embrace a culture of life, even when it may not always be politically expedient. We know that God has placed you in this position for ‘such a time as this’, and we are grateful.

We hope that you will consider holding a signing ceremony on the South Lawn also to honor the men and women who have worked long and hard to see this ban enacted into law, and to celebrate this victory for unborn children. Thank you for considering our request.

Sincerely,
