OUR INTERNET SERVER ATTACKED

DEVASTATING "DENIAL OF SERVICE" ATTACK

Beginning Friday night and continuing through Saturday and Sunday our Internet server was the main target of a "denial of service" attack. The attack brought down our main site at www.rfcnet.org as well as the secure server we use to accept online contributions. As a result several links from the RFC update sent to you on Friday, March 22nd did not work. Our site has been unable to accept contributions now for more than 72 hours. This is a problem in that 90% of our Internet contributions are made on weekends. Our Internet store is located at a secure Microsoft site and was for the most part not affected, however, links to the store from our e-mails and from our main Internet site did not function. As a result those trying to order our new Easter products may not have been able to do so.

However .... We were able to recover the site from backups and install all secure links by noon on Monday. No personal information of subscribers to our e-mail list or customers of our Internet store was compromised in anyway.
